(WFRV) – The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) announced the arrest of two Wisconsin men on numerous charges of drug possession and public endangerment.
Shortly before midnight on Thursday, a deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle whose registered owner didn’t have a valid license. The suspect vehicle fled the initial stop at a speed surpassing 120 miles per hour.
Minutes later, another deputy tried to stop the vehicle, and a Portage police officer deployed a tire deflation device, striking the suspect vehicle.
The driver exited the vehicle in an attempt to flee but was taken into custody after a K-9 from the Sheriff’s Office tracked him, while the passenger remained compliant.
The driver was identified as 50-year-old Christopher Coles of Mauston and showed signs of operating while intoxicated. The passenger, 62-year-old Eugene Jones of Necedah was taken into custody as well.
Coles was charged with his 8th OWI offense, fleeing, operating after revocation, felony drug possession and multiple other crimes. Jones’ charges were felony possession and felony bail jumping.
