Authorities in Wisconsin help rescue five people from Lake Michigan after two separate water incidents

OAK CREEK, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities in southeastern Wisconsin had a busy Sunday evening after reportedly rescuing multiple people from Lake Michigan in different incidents.

According to the Oak Creek Fire Department, on August 18 around 5:50 p.m., crews responded to reports of multiple people in distress in the water on Lake Michigan at Bender Park. When authorities got to the scene, three victims were seen on the beach.

All three of them reportedly had been in the water and were removed before authorities got to the scene. Two of the victims were reportedly sent to the hospital.

The second incident reportedly happened an hour after the first one and involved a rowboat that capsized near the WE Energies fishing pier. The two people who were on the boat were reportedly found along the rocky shoreline.

One of the victims was able to walk to the fishing pier to be evaluated. The second victim had to be moved up the face of the cliff with the help of the Milwaukee Fire Department’s Heavy Urban Rescue team and the Cudahy Fire Department’s High Angle Rescue Team.
