KENOSHA, Wis. (WFRV) – Officers in southeastern Wisconsin have provided an update on the Thursday morning incident where a suspicious person at a local elementary school led to a large police presence.
The Kenosha Police Department provided two updates since their original Facebook post, both around 12:20 p.m. Officers say the person entered a secured entryway at Roosevelt Elementary School with ‘suspicious bags’ before fleeing into the neighborhood.
It was noted that all Kenosha Unified School District (KUSD) schools are on a secure hold as officers investigate the incident and try to locate the person who fled Roosevelt.
This means business as usual is occurring inside schools, but no one can enter or exit buildings at this time. We also are holding our morning 4K students and canceling our afternoon 4K. We understand the concerns this may raise, but assure you this is being done for the safety of our students, staff and families as we work closely with the Kenosha Police Department who is working to locate the suspect as quickly as possible.

The Kenosha PD’s release also touched on the rumors that a person of interest was taken into custody, which is not true at this time. It was also reiterated that the person never entered the school.
Local 5 will continue to update this story as more information is released.
