Squirrel exploring breaker box in Wisconsin likely cause of neighborhood power outage

WAUSAU, Wis. (WFRV) – A reported disturbance originally believed to be a possible gunshot sound was a transformer that blew out, causing a neighborhood power outage in Wisconsin likely because of a curious squirrel.

According to the Wausau Police Department, officers were sent to the 900 block of Jefferson Street for a reported disturbance that was possibly a gunshot, only to find no disturbance.

Officers on the scene learned that the neighborhood had experienced a very recent power outage and that the ‘gunshot’ was likely a blown transformer.

Utility workers joined the scene to assist and found that a ‘curious’ squirrel was exploring a breaker box outside a nearby home. Unfortunately, the squirrel was found dead by officials on the scene.
