Sheriff: Suspect in 23.5-mile pursuit in Fond du Lac County to face felony eluding charge

ELDORADO, Wis. (WFRV)—The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office is looking to file charges against a suspect involved in a 23.5-mile pursuit that was broken up into parts.

According to a release, a Sergeant attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on I-41 near Townline Road in Eldorado around 10:55 a.m. on Thursday. The driver was reportedly known to law enforcement with active warrants from probation and parole.

The suspect fled an attempted stop, continuing to speed northbound on I-41, subsequently exiting onto Highway 26 in Winnebago County. The suspect continued east to the intersection with Highway 45.

Law enforcement stopped their pursuit due to increased traffic and high speeds; however, a deputy found the suspect recklessly driving on Van Dyne Road in Eldorado, which resulted in another pursuit.

The suspect continued to speed north before turning onto County Highway N eastbound. Deputies and Fond du Lac Police Department officers used tire deflation devices on Highway 45, or Lakeshore Drive.

The suspect proceeded southbound onto Lakeshore Drive, but reversed upon the sight of law enforcement, and turned northbound at high speeds, as the pursuit was terminated again south of Oshkosh.

Felony Eluding and First Degree Reckless Endangerment charges will be filed against the suspect. The 23.5 mile pursuit was broken into an initial eight mile segment and the second stretch spanning 15.5 miles.

The investigation is ongoing. No details on the suspect or arrests were provided.
