GARDNER, Wis. (WFRV) – First responders worked to rescue four people who were trapped on a piece of ice drifting out into the bay of Green Bay in Door County Friday afternoon.
According to the B.U.G. Fire Department, crews were called out to Gardner around 3:55 p.m. on March 14 for reports of four people stranded on a piece of ice that had drifted roughly half a mile from shore.
The U.S. Coast Guard Station Sturgeon Bay and Nasewaupee Fire Rescue were called in to help rescue the stranded with the use of their airboats.

All four people were eventually brought back to shore and no injuries were reported.
Authorities say that by the time the rescue was complete, the sheet of ice was roughly one mile from shore.
The Door County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin DNR also helped during the incident.
