THE STATE FILES ITS RESPONSE TO BRENDAN DASSEY’S LATEST ATTEMPT TO OVERTURN HIS MURDER CONVICTION. DASSEY’S DEFENSE IS ASKING THE STATE SUPREME COURT TO REVIEW A FEDERAL APPEALS COURT RULING UPHOLDING THAT CONVICTION AND LIFE PRISON SENTENCE. DASSEY’S DEFENSE ARGUES THAT THE THEN-17-YEAR OLD WAS COERCED BY POLICE INTO CONFESSING THAT HE HELPED HIS UNCLE—STEVEN AVERY—TO TORTURE AND KILL TERESA HALBACH BACK IN 2005. THE STATE IS ASKING THE HIGH COURT TO UPHOLD THE DECISION AND TO DENY THE APPEAL.
