RICHFIELD, Wis. (WFRV) – A 135-year-old home in southeastern Wisconsin was destroyed on Tuesday after multiple agencies worked to control a major fire, including the use of roughly 100,000 gallons of water.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, multiple agencies responded to a house fire on Plat Road in the Village of Richfield just before 3 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4.
Authorities were warned of the incident after getting a 911 call from a passerby reporting visible flames coming from the Plat Road residence, deputies and the Richfield Fire Department promptly arrived at the scene.

Multiple fire departments were then called in as the fire intensified. The fire reportedly continued to spread throughout the large structure with efforts being hampered by low temperatures and a low water supply.
The homeowner, who wasn’t home when the fire began, arrived shortly after and was able to get his dog out of the home. No one else was inside the home at the time.
The release notes that upwards of 100,000 gallons of water were used to put out the fire. However, the renovated 135-year-old home is expected to be deemed a total loss with damage estimates still being assessed.
