2025 World Axe & Knife Throwing Championships officially kick-off in Appleton

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – Over 400 worldwide competitors are in Appleton as the 2025 World Axe & Knife Throwing Championships kicked off on Thursday.

The World Axe Throwing League (WATL) and World Knife Throwing League (WKTL) previously said that hundreds of bids were awarded, with 35 states and four countries sending representatives to try and take home a world championship in the following categories:

  • Standard Knife
  • Knife Duals
  • Hatchet Duals
  • Hatchet
  • Big Axe

Set-up began on Tuesday, with 19 throwing lanes set up as competitors look to earn up to $65,000 in prizes along with that elusive title. Thursday was the first day, with Knife Duals competitions kicking off at 4 p.m.

Friday’s events include Standard Knife Throwing at 8:30 a.m. and the Standard Hatchet competition at 1 p.m. Saturday will have the big event at 8:30 a.m. for Big Axe and the Hatchet Duals at 3 p.m.

The finals will be live-streamed on the respective leagues’ YouTube Channels with events kicking off at noon for all five category finals.

According to the release, 28 competitors hail from Wisconsin.
