Ashwaubenon Police use pepper spray to arrest man who barricaded himself in crawlspace

ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities in Ashwaubenon used pepper spray to apprehend a man who had barricaded himself in a crawlspace at a residence on Monday afternoon.

Around 4:00 p.m., Ashwaubenon Public Safety Officers responded to the 1300 block of Orlando Drive after receiving reports of an individual screaming from the address. Prior calls to the residence indicated a history of violence toward police.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the homeowner, who told them her son may have been under the influence of drugs. The son was reportedly in the basement, acting out of control and damaging property.

Officers made verbal contact with the son, who was reportedly incoherent and delusional. He then barricaded himself in a crawlspace, prompting authorities to deploy pepper spray. However, the initial attempt was ineffective.

Negotiations continued, and eventually, an officer was able to enter the crawlspace. After a brief struggle, the son was taken into custody.

The individual was transported to a local hospital for medical attention before being booked into the Brown County Jail. Charges are expected to be referred.
