GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Green Bay Police Chief Chris Davis stopped by the Local Five studio Wednesday morning to discuss the hiring of new officers and a new program that helps safely recover individuals with a cognitive condition.
As 2024 starts to come to an end, Chief Davis says the department is looking ahead and making plans for 2025 starting with the addition of some new officers.

“The Budget just passed last week and we are adding two police officer positions to our Neighborhood Response Team.” Chief Davis adds that these new positions will be funded by a grant in the first year which will then also be matched by the city of Green Bay.
These two new officers on the Neighborhood Response Team are expected to be responsible for building relationships with people throughout the community, working on violence prevention, and providing mental health check-ins for the rest of the department.
Chief Davis then spoke on Project Lifesaver and how it helps them when dealing with calls to service about missing loved ones.
“This is yet another grant-funded program. We’ve started out with two of these that are available if you have a loved one maybe experiencing dementia or Alzheimers who you’re worried about wandering off. We can let you borrow one of these bracelets.”

Chief Davis adds that these bracelets are similar to that of an AirTag which uses radio tracking allowing officers to quickly find someone should they go missing.
The Green Bay Police Department is not the first jurisdiction to use these bracelets in the state but Chief Davis says it was an important program to get into.
“This is enough of a problem in every community, certainly in this one and we thought this was a good program to get into.”
