Fire causes considerable smoke damage to campground resort in Wisconsin, cause under investigation

WEYWAUWEGA, Wis. (WFRV) – A fire at a campground resort in Wisconsin resulted in ‘considerable’ smoke damage to a bar in an attached game room.

According to the New London Fire Department, officials were alerted to a fire at the bar at Guth’s Landing & Resort in Weyauwega. The caller reported smoke and flames around 10:05 p.m. on Monday.

Fire extension damage was reported in an attached gameroom as it reportedly burnt through the roof of a shower/bathroom area of the facility. The bar attached to the game room sustained ‘considerable smoke damage.’

The bar had numerous mounted wild animals and fish on display, which fortunately survived in a glass display case.

The cause of the fire is unknown; however, the property owner reportedly said they had lit a water heater and turned the thermostat up on a furnace inside the building that housed the shower/bathroom area 30 minutes before the fire’s discovery.

No estimated losses have been provided. This incident is still under investigation.
