To prepare people and welcome them to the iconic Green Bay and Wisconsin food culture, Schreiber Foods and the Green Bay Packers gathered together to host ‘Taste of the Draft.’

The event raised money to help GENYOUth, a non-profit, in its commitment to fighting food insecurity amongst students. All of the money raised will help students at 90 different schools in Wisconsin have more access to food.

In addition to tasting the countless dishes on display, attendees had the chance to meet and greet with Packers icons like LeRoy Butler, Jerry Kramer, James Lofton, Dave Robinson and Ahman Green.

Local 5 Sports’ Lauren Helmbrecht spoke with Butler regarding the Draft and how important it was to have it in Green Bay, especially for the doubters.

“It’s unprecedented because if you’re from the state, we’ve always been told that we’ll never get the Super Bowl or the Draft,” Butler said. “This is legacy type stuff, because people in town get a chance to celebrate and I’m so excited for people to get a chance to see what Green Bay is all about.”

Butler said the event was special as well, because it’s something he connected with at a personal level.

“Anybody who doesn’t know my story, GENYOUth and I align,” Butler said. “I’m one of the kids who would benefit from this. Some of my best meals came from school.”

Butler told Helmbrecht that it was a full-circle thing for him, as he gets the chance to help people who are in the position he was as a kid.

Live music, magicians, a silent auction and a beer garden were on the schedule as well, with a special appearance from 2025’s Miss America, Abbie Stockard.

Helmbrecht spoke with Stockard, who expressed delight over her flight landing in Green Bay, especially when she was greeted with cheese curds right away.

“I’ve never been anywhere where I’ve received a bag of cheese curds the second I walked off the plane, but I love cheese, so I knew I was in the right place,” Stockard said.

Helmbrecht also spoke with the recently retired Packers great, Mason Crosby, who was in attendance, expressing his excitement for the Draft to be in Green Bay.

“It’s special and [Green Bay] deserves it, being here at this event with all of the fans and seeing how much people love football, the Packers and what it’s all about,” Crosby said.

It’s a first time for Crosby as well, as he wore a new ‘Packers Alumni’ shirt, since he just recently retired. Crosby told Helmbrecht he had to get used to it and that he had spoken with a few of his former teammates before arriving here and while in town.

“It’s the first time I’ve done this as an alum,” Crosby said. “It’s funny because half of our Super Bowl team is here, it’s almost like a reunion, and we’re going to have fun amidst a great week to share in this together.”
