Lovin’ the Skin I’m In hosts healthcare summit for girls at Aurora BayCare Medical Center

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Aurora BayCare Medical Center was the host site for the nonprofit, ‘Lovin’ the Skin I’m In,’ which held a healthcare summit on Tuesday morning for girls in fifth grade and up to explore careers in the industry.

Local 5 News met with Rhonda Chandler, the founder and executive director of Lovin’ the Skin I’m In, to discuss the event’s purpose and importance.

“We have young ladies from the northeast Wisconsin area who are spending the day with us,” said Chandler. “They’re hearing from panelists in different professions, such as physicians, occupational therapists, and mental health therapists. They’re sharing their experience about their profession and how they got where they are today.”

Chandler said her main goal with the summit is to expose the girls to careers at a young age.

“My goal is always representation and putting positive influences and role models in front of our girls,” stated Chandler. “Wanting them to see that the sky is the limit and they can have a healthcare career, it can transition into the school setting, the hospital setting, and more. That representation is key, knowing there’s no limit to what they can do.”

The event hosted an icebreaker activity, interactive bingo, giveaways, and tours around Aurora BayCare Medical Center.

Chandler is already planning next year’s Lovin’ the Skin I’m In summit.

“I’m hoping we’ll grow even bigger, and I feel like we got a good turnout for our first one,” explained Chandler. “I’m hoping we can fill the room even more so that we have to find a bigger room for our participants and find more individual panelists that want to participate and be that representation for our girls.”

Lovin’ the Skin I’m In has another event approaching. Their ‘Mix & Mingle’ event, where families return for the summer, reconnect and welcome new participants on September 8 at Life Church in De Pere at 2:00 p.m.
