MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WFRV) – An officer with the Milwaukee Police Department was seriously injured after a man with a semi-auto rifle shot at responding officers on Wednesday morning.
According to the Milwaukee Police Department, around 11:50 a.m. on February 12, officers got word of a man in the 700 block of North 27th Street who was firing shots from a ‘large gun’ while walking down the street.

When officers arrived, the armed suspect was ordered to drop the gun. The man reportedly ignored the orders and allegedly began to shoot at responding officers.
In the exchange of gunfire, a Milwaukee PD officer shot and hit the suspect. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A different officer, a 34-year-old man with over eight years of service, was shot by the suspect during the incident.
The injured officer was taken to a local hospital and is being treated for serious injuries.
“The Milwaukee Police Department sends our thoughts and prayers to our officer and wish him a speedy recovery,” the Department said in its release.

Officers recovered the suspect’s semi-auto rifle at the scene. The release also noted that the officer who discharged his firearm was placed on administrative duty per department policy.
The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team is investigating the incident with the Oak Creek Police Department being the lead agency.
The investigation is fluid and ongoing, officers say.
