GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – After he retired in March, the Packers’ all-time leading scorer, Mason Crosby, returned to Green Bay for the NFL Draft, reuniting with teammates and speaking to fans.
Local 5 Sports’ Lauren Helmbrecht spoke to the former Packers great, who said Green Bay deserves the national spotlight.
“It’s special and it deserves it, being here at this event with all of the fans,” Crosby said. “It shows how much people love football, the Green Bay Packers and the NFL, which will be showcased all week.”
It’s also the first time Crosby has been in his new Packers alumni shirt, which was surreal to the former kicker.
“It’s weird, this is the first time I’ve done it as an alumnus and I’m getting my bearings together,” Crosby said. “Everybody is so happy and the energy is palpable. I think it’s going to be an awesome week.”
Crosby isn’t the only former Packer in town, with countless players coming back to hang out and showcase their beloved football team and its home city. He told Local 5 that it’s almost like a Super Bowl XLV reunion.
“Almost half of our Super Bowl team is here, it’s like a reunion, getting to see them and mix it up [has been fun],” Crosby said. “Some of those guys have done this a little longer and more, but it’s a great week to share this.”
Of course, the Draft is a football-focused event, despite all of the fun activities around, and Crosby gave his thoughts as to what he wants his former team to do.
Things to do in and around Green Bay during the 2025 NFL Draft
“I would love to see them trade up and get the player they’re excited about,” Crosby said. “It’s not the traditional Packers way, so it’s fine if they don’t. There will be some available guys at 23.”
He also said that in his heart, he wants them to break a tradition by taking a wideout, but could see them drafting an edge rusher like Shemar Stewart out of Texas A&M, if he’s available.
