One ‘aggressive’ dog fatally shot, another at large after incident at Elementary School in Upper Peninsula

MENOMINEE, Mich. (WFRV) – Officers in the Upper Peninsula responded to a report on Thursday of two aggressive pit bulls near Menominee Elementary School.

According to the release, the School Resource Officer alerted dispatch that the two dogs were barking aggressively at children on the playground.

Officers found the dogs in the 1200 block of 10th Street due to a report that somebody was attacked. Further investigation deemed that the dogs aggressively charged the person, but the individual was not bitten.

Another person soon after was chased by the dogs before getting into safety in a pickup truck bed. Officers attempted to capture the dogs with tasers but were unsuccessful as the two dogs ran back towards the playground.

In an attempt to prevent any further threat to children, an officer struck the dogs with a patrol vehicle and had to fatally shoot one. The other dog, a brown and white female is still at large and could be injured.
