WAUKESHA, Wis. (WFRV) – One person died after being evacuated from a house fire around 3 a.m. on Friday in Wisconsin.
According to a release from the City of Waukesha, the Waukesha Fire Department responded to a fire at 1505 Elder Street shortly after 3 a.m. on Friday.

Crews encountered heavy smoke throughout the house and flames from the back of the building as they initiated suppression efforts along with search and rescue. The house had one occupant inside at the time, and they were removed from the house.
Paramedics attempted treatment; however, the victim died shortly after being evacuated by crews. The fire was controlled within 15 minutes and a pet was rescued on the scene.
The pet was turned over to the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha to be taken care of. The fire went on in frigid weather, making the suppression effort more difficult, however, no firefighters were injured.

The fire is still under investigation and there are no preliminary damage estimates; however, the home is likely a total loss.
