SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities say a person of interest is in custody after a 16-year-old girl was shot in the shoulder over the weekend.
According to a release from the Sun Prairie Police Department, officers responded at 3:20 a.m. on March 9 to a home on the 100 block of South Bird Street for a report of shots fired.

Officers found a 16-year-old girl with an apparent gunshot wound to the shoulder and took her to a local hospital where she remains in stable condition.
Police say the 16-year-old was with a group of people inside an apartment when the shooting happened and among those who were also there at the time, 19-year-old Javon Rufus was identified as a person of interest.
Rufus and the victim are said to be known to each other and they were both spending time with the group before the shooting.
Just before noon, officials reported that they had located and arrested Rufus in the City of Madison without any incident.
An updated release says that Rufus has been charged with 2nd-degree attempted intentional homicide, referred to the Dane County District Attorney’s Office.
