KEWAUNEE, Wis. (WFRV) – Cheers to a retired beer enthusiast and Kewaunee resident who is now brewing his own batch as the owner of Lake Whispers Brewing LLC.
Chris Schroeder is trading his free time for frothy brews, launching his own beer brewing venture—a passion that began during a business trip to England 25 years ago.

“I enjoyed the beer and noted that we don’t have that kind of craft beer back home,” he said. “So when I came home, I started making my own beer—whatever I wanted to do, whatever brand or style, however I wanted to make it, I made it on my own.”
Schroeder continued brewing for friends and family but ultimately decided to share his craft with the community after retiring from Paper Converting.
“We’re trying to brew up a storm, building up the economy in Kewaunee by having a small brewery there—a very small brewery,” he said. “It’s gonna be five barrels or less and producing beer to help out the local establishments in town.”
Lake Whispers debuted its Feisty Waters Witbier earlier this month. Noble Roots Brewing Company in Green Bay brewed and packaged it, while The Woods in Green Bay was among the first spots to offer it.

In the meantime, Schroeder is searching for a location to officially open a small brewery.
“We’re actively pursuing trying to find a place to put the brewery, so that’s our next step,” he said. “We’re hoping by the end of the year we have a location nailed down, we’ve got the equipment ordered, and possibly put in place.”
