(WFRV) – Wisconsin’s official nine-day gun deer hunting season has officially kicked off throughout the state, and officials are reminding motorists to be mindful of their surroundings.
With widespread travel expected as Thanksgiving approaches and hunters out in rural areas, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation posted a reminder on Facebook about keeping each other safe.

“If you’re not a hunter and drive in rural areas, be mindful of vehicles parked on the side of the road and watch for hunters,” the post said.
In a separate post, the Wisconsin State Patrol added that it is illegal to drive or hunt while impaired or intoxicated.
Gun deer season runs from Saturday morning until Sunday, Dec. 1. More information is available on the Department of Natural Resources’ website.
