Winnebago County man on parole for OWI conviction arrested for 7th offense, uncooperative with officer

WINNECONNE, Wis. (WFRV) – A Winnebago County man who was on parole for a previous OWI conviction was stopped after allegedly ‘driving dangerously’ and was arrested for his seventh OWI offense on Wednesday.

A release from the Winneconne Police Department states that a vehicle driven by a 47-year-old Winneconne man was pulled over on East Main Street around 8 p.m. on June 12.

The officer, who stopped the vehicle for ‘operating dangerously,’ reportedly noticed signs of alcohol impairment during the traffic stop. Authorities say the man refused the officer’s request for a series of standardized field sobriety tests and allegedly became ‘uncooperative’ with the officer.

The officer then learned that the man was on parole/extended supervision due to a prior sixth OWI conviction and was reportedly ordered not to consume any alcohol as a condition of his parole.

Although the driver refused standardized field sobriety testing, he submitted a preliminary breath test (PBT) with a .171 result. The 47-year-old was subsequently arrested and taken to a local hospital for a blood draw.

The Omro Police Department, Oshkosh Police Department, and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Winneconne PD during the incident.
