WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY: Lake effect snow tonight

THE LATEST FROM STORM TEAM 5…

Snow showers moved through the area overnight and through much of today. Most of the area saw 4-7″, with lesser amounts up north and a few pockets of higher totals. A list of snowfall reports will be on the way later this evening.

We are not done with the snow, as winds are now turning to the northeasterly direction. This will likely set off a lake effect snow bad this evening and into the overnight hours. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY remains in effect through 6am Sunday morning for Kewaunee, Manitowoc and Sheboygan counties.

Where the lake effect band moves onshore, an additional 1-3″ of snow is expected. However, models are zeroing in on portions of Kewaunee and Manitowoc counties to pick up slightly higher amounts in the 3-4″ range. Looks like this band should move back over Lake Michigan by day break tomorrow.

Otherwise, for those away from the lakeshore, expect cloudy skies and the winds to crank up gusting between 25 and 30 mph. Lows tonight into the teens to around 20.

A weak trough of low pressure will move into the area tomorrow, which will likely bring in a few isolated snow showers. Snowfall totals will remain under 1″. Winds will still stay strong out of the north gusting to 30mph. This will likely bring in steady temperatures in the teens and 20s.

Once we lose daylight and clouds clear, temperatures fall quickly. Low temperatures Monday morning will be in the single digits, with winds chills in the -15 to -25 range. Highs Monday in the low single digits.

Tuesday morning will be coldest, with wind chills between -20 to -30. Highs Tuesday will return to the single digits. We will likely see improving temperatures for the middle and end of the week.
