Wisconsin man arrested after allegedly assaulting mother, leaving her in critical condition

CUMBERLAND, Wis. (WFRV) – A 29-year-old Wisconsin man was arrested on Monday after allegedly assaulting his mother, resulting in severe injuries and prompting an emergency response team to intervene.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., the Cumberland Police Department received a call for a welfare check on a resident. The caller reported that his wife had phoned him, during which he heard screaming before the line disconnected. Afterward, he was unable to contact her.

Law enforcement officers later established phone contact with the woman, who reported that her son, Devin Baldwin, had assaulted her and left her badly injured. She had been able to flee the residence and was escorted safely to an awaiting ambulance.

A perimeter was set up around the residence, and the Barron/Rusk Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called in. Baldwin had previously required ERT intervention during two prior incidents, and he had recently been released from prison following a 2023 event at the same residence.

Despite multiple attempts to peacefully persuade Baldwin to exit the home, the ERT entered the house and found him in the upstairs area. Baldwin reportedly resisted arrest and was uncooperative. During the altercation, Baldwin spat in the face of a Barron County detective. He was physically restrained before being taken into custody.
